Where are all my try hards at? I think that phrase can be used negatively, and I believe that a bad kind of “try hard” is being inauthentic. But when you’re trying hard and being yourself? That’s what’s really cool.

Even when we think of the “cool girl,” the effortless folks we know who always seem to have it together, it’s not because they’re not trying at all. They’re actually working really hard, but are keeping it calm and collected on the surface.

I feel like the perfect example of someone who does try really hard but acts confident and relaxed is Charlie XCX. She’d never consider me cool enough to hang out with her, but I admire how much she works on her talents. And that she’s not scared to pull off some amazing looks.

Now, I continue to not be someone who can seem like nothing bothers her. And it’s because not only do I want to try hard, but I really care about what I’m doing. That’s where anxiety comes from for a lot of us too.

This week is all about trying your best and recognizing that it’s not cringe, even if it doesn’t always work. It’s one of the best pieces of advice I took away from guest Alex George this week—you’re going to love her too!

If you never tried anything new, you’d never know what failure or success looks like. Keep trying. I’ll be cheering you along from the sidelines.
