We live in a world where folks like to have a singular definition of others. So they can feel like they understand them and put them into certain boxes.
But we all know that our lives, inner selves, and journeys are so much more than one note or flavor. We arenāt just a āmarketerā or a āmomā or any other title that we accumulate throughout our lives. We are a perfect blend of all of our experiences, feelings, roles and actions.
This weekās guest Dominique Leach really reminded me that we are so much more than simple titles or what others want to put on us. She is a crazy talented pit master. But she is also a fine dining chef, a business owner, and recognizes she stands out in her field as a Black queer woman.
Dom is so much more than any single one of those attributes. She is a person that can really tell a story, has a contagious laugh, and does not ever quit. And each one of her things and passions and ticks makes her her.
So often we look at what weād like to change about ourselves. Or how we can be better at one part of our lives so that we are known as the ābestā in that area. But I challenge you this week to think about how multifaceted you are. How much life youāve lived, the moments youāve been so proud, and those incredibly hard days when it took all you had to get yourself up in the morning.
Each of us has our own personal recipes. And no one is truly alike. Embrace it.
