Greetings from the other side of the 2026 James Beard Awards! I was lucky enough to be part of the official press members for this year’s “Oscars of food.” Keep following along on my Instagram for further clips from the various events, and I’ll be coming out with an exclusive episode soon of my chats from the red carpet!

While there was plenty of glamour about Chicago the last few days, I was most inspired by the folks nominated for these illustrious awards. Who have put their blood, sweat, tears, dollars, and smiles into everything they do. Having the high I did of helping capture their stories and moments right after winning was an added bonus.

I’d say I was most inspired by the folks who were honored for the Impact Awards, including Humanitarian of the Year, Damián Diaz of No Us Without You LA. Damian and team provide food security free of charge to underserved communities in the greater Los Angeles area. These communities include back of house restaurant staff and street vendors with a focus on feeding mothers and children in need.

You can imagine the great work they’ve done this past year or so regarding immigration practices too. Damián and I met on the red carpet and shared a big hug as he came down to the press room after officially receiving his award onstage. His energy is infectious, like the other folks so proud to be recognized by their peers on such a special night.

You can imagine after many days of running around, standing on my feet, and yapping nonstop, I’m tired as all get out. But I think about all the folks I met and ran into and just want to keep pushing, pushing, pushing (with some well-timed naps in between).

This week’s guest, Laura Scherb, also leaves me inspired. She is so incredibly smart, creative, and forward-thinking, and I’m so proud to call her a new friend. You really will be blown away by the work she does and is continuing to do, all in the name of beauty, excitement, and inspiration for others.
